2015

Music Camp 2015 took place July 5–10, 2015. We had 120 campers and 28 counselors. Here’s a picture of all of us, taken after lunch on Monday. We’re a good-looking group, aren’t we?

camppic2015-fullCampers arrived on Sunday afternoon, with their instruments, duffel bags, snacks, and smiles, ready to make new friends and rekindle old friendships from past years. We only had one new counselor this year – Amber. She got some help in leading Getting Acquainted games in the afternoon, as well as the New Counselor Shenanigans in the evening. (Don’t worry – those stains will wash right out!) Thanks to Dale, Miranda, Becca & Michelle for helping her out. :)

2015newcounselorEach Music Camp morning starts bright and early (and loud!) at 7:00 am with the Lambec Morning Show. We don’t have an official broadcast license, so we set up big speakers and play music so loudly that it drowns out most nearby radios. No need to pack an alarm clock! The campers love starting the day with an outdoor dance party. A big shout out to this year’s sound engineer, Adam. He made sure everything was plugged in and dialed up right.

Theme days were a big hit again this year – “Crayon Day,” “College Day,” and “Superhero/Movie/Cartoon Character Day” brought out some very interesting (and awesome) fashion statements.

2015crayons2015heroesWe had to improvise our evening activities due to some unsettled weather throughout the week. Some of our outdoor plans got washed out, so we came up with some new ideas that really let the campers show their creativity. They certainly rose to the occasion and turned two nights of sitting inside into lots of fun and laughter, and some great memories for everyone.

  • Monday – We had Game Show Night, where cabins faced off “against” each other in Family Feud, Obstacle Course, Guess Who, Go Fish, and Cornhole Tic-Tac-Toe.
  • Tuesday – The first of our indoor activities was Skit Night. Each cabin came up with a skit idea, rehearsed it on their own, and performed it in front of the rest of camp. Music Camp has lots of great actors!
  • Wednesday – We played camp-wide softball in the afternoon, complete with a “Pineapple Race” during the inning break, concessions thrown into the crowd, and singing Take Me Out To the Ballgame. That night, we had our traditional (or is that inevitable?) game of Capture the Flag, complete with a new song to teach the rules to the new campers. This year’s rules were set to Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon. Major thanks to Dobe, who spent a good bit of her free time to get that costume to light up!
  • Thursday – Rain washed out the morning, but that didn’t stop some of our campers from hitting our homemade waterslide in the afternoon! And the evening brought out a brand new activity – Music Camp Lip Sync contest. This turned into a great night of creativity, energy, laughter, and cheering. Everybody had a blast with this, and the campers really turned it into something special.

Friday brought us lots of sunshine and cool temperatures for the evening concert (which is the most important weather event). Our outdoor concert/worship service featured performances from our Strings Ensemble, Band, Orchestra, Vocal Ensemble, Sign Language crew, and full-camp Choir. This year’s Choir musical was “Open Up The Heavens,” arranged by Dennis & Nan Allen.

Thanks so much to everyone who was a part of Music Camp 2015 – it was a real joy. Can’t wait until next year! (Incidentally, the tentative schedule lists Music Camp for July 10–15, 2016.)

God’s blessings to you all,
Your Music Camp 2015 Volunteer Staff
