Music Camp 2014 ran July 13–18, 2014. We had 126 campers and 31 counselors.
We had to change our Sunday registration setup due to the threat of rain (which fortunately never came). Our 5 new counselors – Melissa, Sierra, Miranda, Dale and Sam – did a fine job running our annual Getting Acquainted games. And later that night, they were each rewarded with a pie – made out of flour (and a little chewing gum). Sam was ‘rewarded’ again, as he got to chew everybody else’s gum when they were finished. Yummy!
Monday morning started bright, early, and LOUDLY with our Music Camp Morning Show. Pete, Jeremy and Tim rolled our campers out of bed and into the Vale at 7:00am for some early dancing. Lots of brassy tunes, dance favorites, and a few surprise jams kept our dancers moving, while the Polar Bear swimmers tested out the waters of Lake Erie (Brrr!). It was also “Dress Like a Superhero” day.
We combined two of our favorite activities into one this year for Monday night’s game – Bible Trivia and Counselor Scavenger Hunt. The harder you had to look for the hidden counselor, the easier trivia question they gave. It was a fun way to explore all the nooks and crannies of Camp Lambec AND increase our knowledge about the Bible.
Tuesday night (“Crayon Day”), we held our semi-annual Music Camp Olympics, complete with Summer Snowballs (filled with flour), Giant Soccer (a nod to the World Cup), and the always popular Horizontal/Vertical Stick Toss, Tug Of War, and other games. It was a fun night of athleticism and good sportsmanship.
By Wednesday, our Orchestra, Strings Ensemble, and Vocal Ensemble were all humming along like clockwork, preparing special music for our end-of-camp program.
And even though the wind was a bit brisk, we laid down our giant plastic tarp (and used lots of baby shampoo) for the annual Music Camp Waterslide.
That evening we also held our annual Capture The Flag tournament. This year’s rules were sung to the tunes of a popular animated movie about snow and ice and reindeer. What was the name of that film again…?
We finally got Sunday’s rain late Wednesday night into Thursday (“College/University Day”) morning. But Thursday afternoon gave us beautiful weather, and let us get back to our normal outdoor activities, like Ga Ga Ball, the newest sensation in our Camp Playground. We also brought back our Hungry Games, full of sticky, gooey, messy fun. Sorry about the messy clothes, Mom & Dad, but your campers had a great time!
Friday rolled in with lots of sunshine. Even though we didn’t want Music Camp to end, it was time to give our thanks back to God, and praise Him for a wonderful week. Through our strings, our drums, our horns, and our voices, we declared The Only Name (Yours Will Be). We’re so thankful for another wonderful week at Lambec Music Camp, and are already looking forward to 2015!
