Music Camp 2009 was held July 12–17, 2009. We had 125 campers and 24 staff. Below is a picture of all of us.
Music Camp started with a special event between the campers and Pete at our Sunday night Club time. Pete made a wager back in May to get the registration numbers up. If 100 campers were registered by July 1, Pete would have his head shaved at camp. The campers met their end of the bargain, so Pete had to say goodbye to his hair. (It was for a good cause!) And it set up his Capture The Flag tribute to “Bald Singers of the 80’s”, done to Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight.”
As usual, nobody needs an alarm clock at Music Camp. The “Pete and Dave” show woke everybody up each morning at 7:00 am, with dance music and contemporary Christian songs. Jayne took our “Polar Bear” swimmers down to Lake Erie for their morning dip (chilly!), and we all met for Morning Watch near the flagpole.
Weather forecasts early in the week called for rain on Wednesday. So that forced us to change the schedule a bit, and move the Waterslide and Capture the Flag to Tuesday. It all worked well, though.
Wednesday (the rain didn’t come), we had an Amazing Race around camp, looking for clues and figuring out puzzles that Cheryl wrote up. Everybody had a chance to show Jeremy their mad rappin’ skillz, too. The night ended up with some really fun spontaneous praise and worship singing at the fire ring, led by the campers.
Kristen tried something new with the Band this year – afternoon sectional rehearsals, led by counselors. It was a great way to help the campers work on some tricky parts of the Band music. It also got everybody out of Rec Hall, which ALWAYS gets hot and stuffy!
We never did see Wednesday’s rain… until Friday! Early forecasts said the rain was coming, so we decided to have our concert at our indoor location, Springfield Elementary School. A few hours after the decision was made, the Heavens opened up and it POURED at camp. Good thing we decided to take the show on the road!
The Choir musical for 2009 was Stand and Shout, by Dennis & Nan Allen. The high-energy music really inspired us to give our all in celebrating worshipping our Father God. The change in weather and the last-minute change in venue certainly didn’t change our thankfulness to God, for another wonderful year at Music Camp.
We hope to see all of the campers back for Music Camp 2010!
